Share Your Lunch: How we will use Street Food to help feed those in Food Poverty

This week we launch ‘Share your Lunch’ – an initiative unique to the UK and just one of the ways we plan to help individuals and families in Liverpool who are living in Food Poverty. Read on for how we plan to do this… it’s exciting! From Monday 13th April – Friday 1st May, our Kitchen BBQ Truck will be parked in St Pauls Square, Liverpool where we will serve a variety of street food based around the BBQ’d meats (and veggie options!) and sides from our INKA Grill (11.30am-2.00pm, Monday-Friday ). Our menu is intended to offer every customer a fresh, nutritious meal in a box – meals that are great to eat and talk about. Each week will be a different theme, to represent a new region of the world – starting with Middle Eastern, followed by Indian and ending with Mediterranean. Sound good?

But that’s not all – there’s a twist, and it’s a good one… – You buy a street food meal from us – we then provide a great meal to a family in food poverty – it’s that simple. The more meals we sell, the more meals we can provide. Each meal will cost £4.50 and this includes the cost of the donated meal. We aim to sell 3000 meals over the course of 3 weeks, and in return – we will cook and distribute 3000 meals back into the communities of Liverpool. We will work with existing Food Poverty Organisations and Food Banks to ensure we reach those who need it most. These meals will be family favourites – home-made and nourishing Lasagnes, Shepherd’s Pies and Scouse. Anyone can come along and ‘Share‘ their lunch with us – and as well as the Can Cook team, local businesses will be giving up their time to work on the Truck in an ‘apprentice-style’ competition – competing to sell the most meals to the public. It’s going to be a fun filled few weeks and we can’t wait.

Why Share? Our mission is to connect people through Food – and we believe Street Food is a great way to bring this ethos to the Streets of Liverpool – reaching people from all walks of life and producing great food – giving people the opportunity to experience great tasting food, whilst helping out someone less fortunate in their local area. It works.
